When I stand before God at the end of my life,
I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say,
"I used everything You gave me."

Vintage Recipe Boxes...

I like garage, yard, estate sales. You never know what you will find. Much to a couple of my friends chagrin, I have been known to deck my darling daughters out in a $1.00 garage sale outfit and I am proud of it. My husband says I have no shame. I am pretty picky mind you... but, I digress!

My husband likes garage sales too. A few weeks ago, he called me from the road to tell me he found an estate sale with a ton of yarn. Being that I have taking up knitting as of late, he asked if I would like a bunch of yarn. When he got home, he unloaded the yarn. Much to my chagrin, all of it is acrylic and I wasn't sure what I would do with it (3 garbage bags full!). I've since come up with a couple of projects I might try and there are some fun things I remember from my childhood I would love to show my girls. Anyway, after he brought in the yarn, he brought in a box of old Ball mason jars. Fun! I can think of a few things to do with those. Then, he brought me these...

I crinkled up my nose at first and wasn't so sure about this. But hey, for $2.00, it was worth a look. Do you recognize them? They are vintage Betty Crocker recipe boxes!

Here is a peek inside. The yellow one on the left has a copyright of 1971. Yep! That's the year I was born. (Shhh, don't tell anyone I will be 40 next year! Whoops! I guess I just did!)

Here is one of the separator cards. Fun huh? I'm pretty sure I can find some treasures to try out and blog about.

The other box is circa 1975.

My friend and I got a pretty good kick out of thumbing through the recipes. I told my husband that alone was worth the $2.00. For instance, there is a section called Men's Favorites with recipes like POW! which is a mixture of beef broth, water, hoseradish and dill weed. Blah! Or, those cheerio Christmas trees, remember those?

All in all, there are some fantastic recipes I am going to try (not the ones above) and while I am not sure what I am going to do with all that yarn, I should be able to make a few good meals!

  5. the first thing I thought of for those boxes was a great way to organize seed packets if you like to plant your own flowers or garden
