When I stand before God at the end of my life,
I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say,
"I used everything You gave me."

Little man's room is coming together!

Just wanted to share Kyle's room. It is coming together nicely.
Sweet bedding is from Nautica Kids. Hubs and I picked it out together.

Sailboat paintings done by me. I thoroughly enjoyed making these!

Window valances match the bedding and are also from Nautica Kids. The desk needs a new home somewhere in the house. I just haven't figured out where that is yet!

Of course I already posted his letters.

See that basket? I've stuck my nose in it for a big whiff more than a few times. Nothing like the smell of Dreft to make you ready to hold a baby!

Now I am having Hubs be on the look out for nautical themed wall stuff that will match. I would like a wooden oar for above the closet (not pictured) and maybe something to go on each side of the window. I think a painting or painted sign that says "Come sail away with me..." would be sweet don't you?

More decoupage wood letters for a baby boy...

So, I've been nesting and decorating preparing for Baby J.

Last week, I made his name for the wall in his room. It has been quite interesting moving from all things girl to doing crafts for a little boy. But I'm starting to catch on and really enjoy it. I can't wait to meet little man, this is for sure.

Making these letters is very simple. If you would like to make your own see my tutorial here.

Monogram Domino Pendant

Here is yet another one of those projects to add to the list of ways to use up paper scraps. The possibilities for decorating domino pendants are endless with the paper, stickers, rub-ons and embellishments out there. These little cuties make great gifts too!

For this project you will need:

Domino (regular size or travel size - I used travel size for this particular pendant)
Paper scraps
Alphabet stickers or rub-ons
Rhinestones
Silver plated bail
E6000 (or other super strong glue)
Scissors
Mod podge
Paintbrush
Ribbon
Pony Beads (not shown here and optional)

1. Cut paper to size. You can either measure the domino and cut it down or lay the domino down and trace it onto the paper, then cut it out.

2. Affix letter sticker or rub-on to the paper.

3. Apply a layer of Mod Podge to the domino and place the paper on it, lining up the edges.

4. Then apply another layer of Mod Podge over the paper.

5. While the Mod Podge is still wet place rhinestones or other embellishements. The rhinestones I used were so small, I dipped the tip of a toothpick into Mod Podge and used that to gently place the rhinestone where I wanted it.

6. After the pendant has dried. Turn it over and using your E6000 glue your bail to the pendant.

7. Once the glue is dried, you are ready to string up the pendant on a pretty cord or ribbon. Here, I used a couple of pony beads to dress it up a bit.

There you have it!

Monday Musings (Jan. 25, 2010)

My decoupage wooden letter tutorial was featured on One Pretty Thing. If you haven't been there you need to check it out and subscribe. There are links fantastic projects from all around the blogosphere!

I was away for the weekend and will tell you about it when I find the right words to explain it. Just know it was emotional and bittersweet as my sister and I went through my Mom's stuff. In the coming days I will share with you some of the neat surprises we found.

Follow me Friday was fun and I am so happy to see so many new faces in my friends up there in the left hand corner. I promise I will be coming around to visit and follow back. I also noticed I have a few new subscribers. Let me say welcome to all new followers and subscribers and thanks for joining me in my quest to create!

Here are some quotes that I ran into while reading on my flights to and from Arizona. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

"Life is a luminous halo, a semi-transparent envelope
 surrounding us from the beginning."
~Virginia Woolf

"When you follow your bliss... doors will open
where you would not have thought there would be doors;
and where there wouldn't be a door for anyone else."
~Joseph Campbell

Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it."

Decoupaged Wooden Letters

Decoupaged wooden letters make great gifts for birthdays, baby showers, etc. I love to add color to my girls' rooms with them. You can use just about any paper and embellishments you have on hand.
This letter B is for Blake. I needed a gift for a baby shower, so I thought I would take you along on how to make one.

For this project, you will need:
  • Wooden letter
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Misc. embellishments (buttons, rhinestones, ribbon etc.)
  • Mod Podge
  • Paint (unless you purchase a prepainted letter)
  • Foam Brush
  • Pencil
  • Scissors or craft knife

1. Lay your letter face down on the back of the paper and trace. You can do the whole letter one paper if you like or chose two like I did here.

2. Cut the letter out with your scissors or craft knife and set your paper letter aside for later.

3. Paint around the edge of your letter, slightly going onto the front.

4. After your paint has dried, apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to the front of your letter and quickly place your paper on it.

At this point your letter should look like this. Let it dry while watching for any bubbles you may need to smooth out.  You can use your fingers or a brayer to do so.
5. Optional... Once your letter has dried from putting on the paper, you can do an extra coat over it. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. After completing this letter, I decided I probably won't again, just because I like the way it looks without it.

6. Once your letter is dry again, apply embellishments. For this letter, I used matching ribbon and some star buttons I had in my stash. Simply trim your ribbon and glue it and your other embellishments on using the Mod Podge.

And then you are finished!

Happy crafting!

First Day of School Gift for Katie

Due to a very important and long appointment I have on Monday morning, I will be unable to be here to see my little one off to her first day of 1st grade. Luckily I have a fantastic friend whose name is Chris to do this for me. Katie loves Chris and so she is very excited that she will be sending her off on that 1st day. Just to help me with the "mommy guilt" I made a new pendant for her. I need to read the user manual on my husband's Nikon D70s before I take another picture with it, but you get the idea. siggie

M is for...

Sweet Maranda. I made this for a dear friend's sweet baby girl. She is 3 months old and today was the first time I have seen her. Soooo cute!
I will post a tutorial at some point on how to do these. They are very easy. And if you are not a crafter or just don't feel like making one (shameless plug coming...) hop on over to my Etsy Shop and order one custom made for you!

A gift for a beautiful friend.

My friend's birthday is tomorrow. I already made and gave an altered letter A to her which she is busy trying to find the right spot to hang in her craft room. She was more than generous with my gift (she helps keep me crafting!) and I know how she loves the birthdays to last as long as possible, so tomorrow morning there will be a gift bag on her doorstep with this frame to match her letter A.

Other Christmas Gifts

These are some boxes I did for some very sweet little girls for Christmas. They were a huge hit!
Zoe carries hers everywhere with her markers in it according to her Mommy. I told her to use it and abuse it and I could make her another one.
